Great Apes is an irreverent half hour of
standup comedy routines, sketch comedy, and silly songs. Occasionally,
there's a funny poem or spoken-word piece.
Offerings range from Abbott and Costello to Dave Chapelle, Andy
Griffith to the Firesign Theater, British and American, straightforward
to surreal, sophisticated to down home, well known to obscure,
Great Apes has it all.
There's music from Flanders and Swann, DEVO, Anna Russell, the
B-52's, Forbidden Broadway, and Spike Jones.
Most of the musical performers are intentionally funny, but
once in a while you'll hear someone who is unintentionally hilarious
(which makes it all the more side-splitting, doesn't it?). |

David Oates has had short stories and poems published in several
magazines. He's worked as a newspaperman, done public-radio
commentary, written more than 100 comic-strip scripts published
in Reuben-award winner "Shoe." He is an experienced
public speaker and currently hosts "Great Apes" comedy.
