Child Welfare Council Established
ATLANTA - Gov. Nathan Deal says a newly created council is expected to help improve child welfare in the state.
Deal announced the creation of the Child Welfare Reform Council Thursday, and says the group will execute a comprehensive review of the Division of Family and Children Services.
The group will advise his office on whether agency reforms or legislative interventions are necessary.
Deal says the decision to create the council was made after consultations with former foster children, juvenile court judges, care providers and child advocates. The council is modeled after one that focuses on criminal justice reform.
Stephanie Blank has been tapped to serve council chairwoman. Blank serves on the State Advisory Council on Early Childhood Education and Care and is active in several other organizations.
