Georgia’s Jobless Rate Declines to 7.3 Percent
ATLANTA – The state of Georgia’s new jobless rate went down to 7.3 percent.
State labor officials say this is the seventh month in a row that Georgia’s jobless rate has declined.
The new figures for this month were released Thursday morning. It is down from 8.6 percent in January a year ago.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says the rate fell because of nearly 16,000 more Georgians became employed. In addition, the number of new layoffs for January fell to the lowest level in eight years.
