Madison County Jail Expansion

03 March 2014

Madison County is in the process of selecting firms to design and construct an expansion of the local jail. Officials expect to begin construction of the Madison County Jail in early summer.

The jail is currently at capacity, and the expansion would increase the number of rooms.
The companies interested in making bids for the design and construction are waiting for officials to give them specifications on what is expected in the addition, which should be no later than the end of March. A contract should be awarded sometime in April.

The expansion is funded through the 2008 SPLOST, which proposed $3.1 million to expand the jail.
