Power Outages Persist Throughout Georgia

17 February 2014

ATHENS - While electrical service has been restored to many of those left powerless by last week’s snow and ice storm, some outages still remain. In an update from its website on Sunday afternoon, Georgia Power stated that it is still working to repair outages affecting 720 customers across the state.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Georgia Power spokeswoman Carol Boatwright says the ice storm damaged the service entrance in these cases. Home repairs are required before utility crews can reconnect them.

Meanwhile, Georgia Electric Membership Corporation reported as of Sunday at 11 a.m., nearly 21,000 customers remained without power as well.

The AJC also reports that Georgia EMC has sent crews from areas of Georgia that were unaffected by the outages to aid in repairs.
