Safety in Our Schools Conference Winding Down

10 July 2014

The fifth annual Safety in Our Schools conference is wrapping up today at the Georgia Center. Over 360 school administrators, counselors, resource officers, public safety personnel and emergency management personnel from around the state attended the event. Chief Steve Nichols, the Public Safety Director for Jackson County, was among those in attendance. He says the conference provides an opportunity to see what actually happens when school emergencies occur.
"It’s an excellent program You get the benefit…of real life experiences that won’t get on day-to-day classroom type experiences that we have. So you get the knowledge of people that’s been through these occurrences already. You get to find out what they did right, what they did wrong, lessons learned…stuff so you can avoid those pitfalls if you were to have an occurrence in your jurisdiction,” Nichols said.
The conference was presented by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, and the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia.
