Night Music turns 15

night music

Monday - Thursday 10 PM

On the night of October 1, 1989, a nervous announcer at GPB’s Athens station, WUGA, switched on her microphone and said, for the first time, “From the University of Georgia, this is Night Music.”

The show’s first host, Sheila McClure, wasn’t the only one who was nervous that night. The GPB radio network, then just five years old, had never before originated a broadcast from a location other than network headquarters. The network’s program director at that time, Bill Bergeron, was in Athens that night, working with WUGA staff to insure that all went well with the inaugural broadcast.

Fifteen years and more than six thousand hours later, Night Music still ends the day for many GPB listeners.

Night Music Hosts:

  • Sheila McClure 1989-90
  • Robert Galloway 1990-91
  • Pamela Hardison 1991
  • Winston King 1991-92
