Athens-Clarke Police Investigating Recent Incidents

Athens-Clarke County Police are investigating an aggravated assault. Officers responded to shots fired in the area of North Avenue and MLK Jr. parkway around 2 o’ clock this morning. They found a 37-year old victim suffering from gunshots wounds. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries, which were not life-threatening.

The ACCPD is also investigating a fatal collision between a motorcycle and car Monday evening. A department media release states officers were sent to the collision on Barnett Shoals Road shortly after 6:30 pm. Officers say the motorcycle, ridden by 27-year old Athens native Douglas Nash was traveling southbound on Barnett Shoals Road. An Acura was turning left from Johnson Drive onto Barnett Shoals to head northbound, the vehicles collided near the center turn lane. EMS responded but Nash succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

In another incident Monday evening, police are seeking a suspect in an armed robbery on Baxter Street. A clerk at a convenience store said that a young male, entered the student, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The clerk complied with the suspect’s request and the suspect left on foot. He is described as a white male in his early 20’s, wearing a long-sleeved t-shirt, shorts, Nike shoes and a baseball cap.
