Athens Under Flash Flood Watch Through Thursday Afternoon

Hurricane Michael is expected to bring widespread rainfall to much of Georgia. Forecasters say amounts of 3 to 5 inches will be likely, with the potential for locally higher amounts between 6 and 7 inches.

The National Weather Service has several counties including Clarke, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Madison, under a flash flood watch. The watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. Forecasters say isolated thunderstorms will be possible overmuch of north and central Georgia this afternoon and tonight. The main hazard will be occasional lightning.
