Dozens of Boats Burn in Fire at Georgia Storage Facility

BUFORD, Ga. (AP) — Nearly 90 boats have burned in a massive blaze at a north Georgia boat storage facility.

Gwinnett County fire officials tell local news media they were called to a boat business near Lake Lanier before dawn Sunday, finding half the storage area burning.

A security guard working at the business reported the fire. Officials say neither the guard nor anyone else was injured.

The fire department says the fire destroyed 86 boats and four vehicles.

The roof of one of the storage buildings collapsed in the fire.

Hazardous material crews worked to ensure that fuel and the foam crews used to extinguish the fire doesn’t contaminate the lake.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
