Free Pet Adoptions at Jackson County Animal Shelter

The Jackson County Animal Shelter is offering free adoptions this week.

Area residents looking for a pet this holiday season can take advantage of an offer by the Jackson County Animal Shelter. The facility is offering free from now through December 17th. Brad Richards is director of Jackson County Animal Control.

"We’re going to give back to citizens of Jackson County and our rescue groups that helped us throughout the year and try to find homes for these animals,” according to Richards.

Regular adoption fees are $100 for cats and $150 for dogs.

Currently the shelter has between 150 and 180 animals, and Richards says more are coming in every day. He says it’s a priority to place the pets into homes. Those who are adopted come with basic medical care already provided.

“We’ve got some wonderful animals here, and also with the free adoption, it comes with the spay or neuter, all its shots, bloodwork’s done, microchip, also the county, that I pay for, is a free office visit afterwards and also I pay for a 30-day free insurance trial to the new owners.”

While the shelter can’t accept cash or monetary contributions, Richards says other donations are welcome.

“Donations like food for the animals, toys, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies. We have to clean every day and make sure everything’s healthy and clean. We can take stuff like that.”

The shelter is located at 29 Galilee Church Road. Hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am until 4 pm and Friday and Saturday from 9 until 1.
