Governor Deal has officially declared tomorrow, January 5th, to be UGA Football Friday in the state. The proclamation was released on Thursday afternoon. Deal said he is encouraging all 103,706 state employees and UGA fans across the state to wear red and black clothing.

Deal made this announcement in anticipation of the College Football Championship game which will be played on Monday, January 8th. The Bulldogs qualified for the national title game after winning the Rose Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooners this past Monday. Georgia will face Alabama for the championship game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Bulldogs last National Championship title was won in 1981.

Governor Deal's proclamation called the double overtime win against Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl as "perhaps the most exciting football game ever played."

He also said that "the Dawgs are ready to make history for the university and the state of Georgia" if they win the national title game.
