Help Kids Kick Cancer by Giving Blood with the Red Cross

miblood.org

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the American Red Cross is working to draw attention to the situation.

According to the Red Cross, more than 15,000 children and teens in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer each year. They may need blood products on a regular basis during chemotherapy, surgery, or treatment for complications.

Ronnika McFall is with Red Cross Communications. She says the organization is offering incentives to donors.

"The Red Cross along with our partner Sports Clips haircuts, is urging eligible donors to help kids kick cancer by giving blood during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month this September,” McFall said. "In thanks, those who come to give blood through September 30 will receive a coupon for a free Sports haircut via email.”

Blood and platelet donors of all types are needed, especially O negative and O positive.

To give blood, use the free American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit red Cross Blood DOT org, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (733-2767).
