House Study Committee on Industrial Hemp Meeting in North Georgia

Members of the State House gathered in Elberton Monday afternoon to consider a potential source of revenue for rural communities.  industrial hemp production.

District 174 State Representative John Corbett is Chair of the House Study Committee on Industrial Hemp Production, which is weighing in on the economic feasibility of developing industrial hemp and its potential economic benefit for rural parts of the state.

The meeting took place on the Elbert County Campus of Athens Technical College.

According to House Resolution 1473, industrial hemp is used more than 25,000 products, including agriculture, textiles, recycling, automotive, furniture, food and beverages, paper, construction materials and personal care items. 27 states currently have legislation allowing the cultivation of industrial hemp.
