Amid worries about trade tensions between the US and other countries, the US Census Bureau reports that new orders for manufactured goods increased by $1.8 billion dollars, or four-tenths of one percent during the month of May.
That number coincides with similarly optimistic May numbers from the Port of Savannah, which reports that last month was the second-busiest month in the port’s history. Total cargo moved at the Port of Savannah topped 3 million tons, an 8.9 percent increase from May of last year.
As manufacturing orders and port traffic increase, however, the US Chamber of Commerce warned yesterday that Georgia could see a severe impact on some $750 million dollars of agricultural and industrial exports which might be affected by retaliatory tariffs from China, the European Union, Canada, and Mexico.
