Strong Numbers for Employment in Georgia During February 2018

Department of Labor

New numbers from the Georgia Department of Labor show February was another record-setting month for the number of jobs, employed residents and the labor force, or the total number Georgians with jobs and those unemployed but looking for work. State labor Commissioner Mark Butler says the strong start to 2018 comes as no surprise.

"During 2017 we actually set records in all the major categories. Now we had the most people in our workforce than we've ever had. We also hit all time highs in the number of jobs," said Butler. "And most importantly we hit an all-time high in the number of people actually employed in the state of Georgia. Well as we go into February, we've already broken all three of those records. I think we're going to continue to see that trend as we go throughout the year."

The numbers matched his prediction at the end of 2017 when the state ended a year of strong year of growth.

Georgia set records in February with new highs for jobs, employed residents and labor force. Butler says the numbers don’t tell the whole story.

"And you take a look at the month of February. We actually saw almost the exact same number of people that entered the workforce, who also gained employment. That's really strong. You're talking over 16,000 people that entered the workforce and over 16,000 people that actually gained employment," said Butler.

The department’s job listing service, Employ Georgia dot com, posted just over 50-thousand job listings.

The most significant gains were made in construction, professional services and hospitality.

Butler urges both job seekers and employers to visit employgeorgia.com to find or post jobs.
