Artist: Broderick Flanigan

WUGA's Artist in Residence event for April celebrates the work of Broderick Flanigan. Broderick Flanigan is an artist and entrepreneur who specializes in bringing peoples’ personal narratives and his art together. The event — held rain or shine — is Saturday, April 21 from 3 to 5 PM. Light hors d'oeuvres will be catered by Marti's at Midday and Uncommon Gourmet supplies lovely wine selections. Admission is $10 for Friends of WUGA and $20 for nonmembers. Friends memberships are $30 or more annually.

In March, WUGA is celebrating the work of assemblage/mixed-media artist Lisa Freeman. She recently had a solo show at OCAF after one of her creations won “Best of Show” at the annual Southworks show th The event — held rain or shine — is from 3pm to 5pm. Light hors d'oeuvres will be catered by Marti’s at Midday, and Uncommon Gourmet supplies lovely wine selections. Admission is $10 for Friends of WUGA and $20 for nonmembers. WUGA Artist in Residence Event for February!

In February WUGA is celebrating the work of local painter and sculptor Leonard Piha. His colorful paintings and complex, assembled structures have been exhibited or are on display at Athens Academy, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, the Chabad House and Hillel near UGA, and in outdoor installations in Georgia and Wisconsin. For years he taught art at Barnett Shoals Elementary School. People attending the year’s first Artists in Residence event -- on February 17th — will see Leonard’s home, studio, and gallery space, all filled with art.

African Perspectives at 20: A Celebration

Please join WUGA as we celebrate our longest-running local program, African Perspectives. The 20th Anniversary celebration will be held at The Foundry in Athens on Monday, November 13. Akinloye Ojo will host a special production of the program, which will be broadcast at a later date. Dance to the African rhythms, with guest performances by UGA African Students Union dancers, the African Fellowship of the Church of Nations choir, and Unitarian Universalists’ Palms of Fire drumming group.
