UGA Faculty and Students Help Boost Northwest Georgia Economies

University of Georgia faculty and students have vitalized several northwest Georgia economies as a part of the Downtown Renaissance Partnership.

The partnership includes a series of projects meant to attract more businesses and customers to rural downtowns. Some of the projects include converting a rail depot to a downtown Welcome Center, putting up a new stage, and updating the grounds of a National Historic Landmark. Grounds.  

The partnership is a collaboration between the Institute of Government and the Georgia Municipal Association and the Georgia Cities Foundation. The  Lyndhurst Foundation granted UGA over $200,000 to fund projects in northwest Georgia,

“The results to date have been impressive, and we have really enjoyed our association with UGA staff and the students who are turning community aspirations into reality,” said Benic Clark, president of the Lyndhurst Foundation.

Chickamauga, Chatsworth, Rossville, Lookout Mountain and Ringgold are among cities that are benefiting from the program.
