North Georgia is beginning to experience more of the effects from Tropical Storm Irma. An Athens Police Officer managed to escaped unscathed after a tree fell on the car while the officer was on patrol. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is also reporting a tree falling on a vehicle, though it was not a police car. There several reports of downed trees and power lines in the area. Many traffic lights are also out. Authorities are urging residents to stay inside and off the roads if possible.
