Athens Woman Dies after Being Ejected from Vehicle

Athens Banner-Herald

An Athens woman was killed after she was thrown from her vehicle and run over by another. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department says 23-year old Quatilia Wilson was traveling in the left hand southbound lane on the Outer Loop near the Mitchell Bridge Road overpass.

According a media release, Wilson’s Nissan Altima made a sudden lane change in front of a Kia Sedona which was traveling in the right hand southbound lane. The Altima continued across the shoulder of the road, striking the guardrail. The vehicle then crossed back into the path of the Sedona, hitting its rear driver’s side panel.

The release states that evidence at the scene showed that the Altima’s driver’s side door opened before hitting the other vehicle, causing Wilson to be ejected from her car. She was taken to a hospital where was pronounced dead on arrival.

Department spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez says police have not determined if she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. That investigation is continuing.
