Rescue Teams Find Bodies of Drowning Victims

After a 5 day search, the bodies of the two Oconee County drowning victims were located yesterday along McNutt Creek.

The bodies of Cameron Smith and Robert Bryant Wade, both 18, were found within 5 minutes of each other at approximately 50 yards apart.

The bodies were found about a quarter of a mile from the dam where they disappeared.

The two teenagers were last seen Friday near the dam at the Puritan Mill site. Witnesses say Wade was walking along the dam when he fell into the water, prompting Smith to jump in to try and save him.

The two men did not know each other.

The search was slow-going as high water levels from record breaking rains complicated the conditions for the rescue team. Representatives from both families were with the rescue teams.
