The 10th Annual Wild Rumpus Parade & Spectacle “Planet X” will be returning Oct. 26 and 27 across historic Athens, GA.
Billed as "Georgia's own Halloween Mardi Gras," the two-day event has grown into a substantial fundraiser and is touted as “one of the biggest holiday festivals in the Southeast” by a Wild Rumpus press release.
It includes free and ticketed special events, live music, street performers, and a free, all-inclusive, family-friendly parade through the streets of downtown enhanced by Athens-area bands along the route.
Profits from the event’s fundraising will benefit Athens Area Homeless Shelter, whose mission is to "provide collaborative, comprehensive services to homeless individuals and families working toward sustainable independence."
Athens haunts hosting the Wild Rumpus include The Foundry, Creature Comforts and Georgia Theatre.
The Wild Rumpus Parade will take place Saturday at 8:30 p.m., starting at Creature Comforts on West Hancock Ave and culminating at City Hall on College Avenue. A variety of musical acts, including White Rabbit Collective, Squalle and Family Recipe will perform along the parade route.
Also part of the weekend festivities is District 2 County Commissioner Mariah Parker, opening the Saturday Royal Rumpus Ball as “Athens’ own hip-hop queen” Linqua Franqa.
