Tornado Siren Tests Planned for Wednesday

National Weather Service

As part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, Athens-Clarke County and the University of Georgia will be conducting a test of the tornado emergency sirens at 9 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019.

Beth Burgess, the Athens-Clarke County emergency management administrator, emphasizes that it is important for Athenians to have a severe weather plan.

“As Hurricanes Irma and Michael have demonstrated in the past two years, Athens-Clarke County can be affected by severe weather emergencies," she said. "Residents should take time before severe weather is a concern to prepare for severe weather situations both at home and at work."

Additionally, ACC residents can sign up for weather and emergency alerts from the county here or from the university here.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week events begin Monday, February 4, with daily topics such as Family Preparedness, Tornado Safety, Lightening Safety, Thunderstorm Safety and Flood Safety.

For additional information, contact Beth Burgess at the Athens-Clarke County Emergency Management Office at 706-613-3410 or beth.burgess@accgov.com.
