Athens-Clarke County Government

Mayor Kelly Girtz has submitted his recommended Fiscal Year 2021 budget to the commission for review. The $140 million measure is $52,000 less than the FY20 plan. The budget proposes a slightly lower millage rate of 13.825 for property taxes.

Major budget items include: a $2.1 million revised pay plan for public safety employees, $430,000 for raises for general employees, the addition of 26 full-time county employees, $750,000 for the Neighborhood Leaders program, $320,000 to hire communications officers at the ACCPD, a reduction in alcohol licensing fees for restaurants and bars, meaning a loss of $475,000 in revenue, and $300,000 for financial stability at the landfill.

A public hearing on the FY21 Recommended Budget is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Commission Chamber. Additional meetings are scheduled for May 21st, may 28th, June 3rd, and June 11th, if needed.
