COVID-19 Cases Spike at UGA

Joshua L. Jones/Athens Banner-Herald via AP

The University of Georgia reported 1417 new cases of Coronavirus from August 31th to September 4th. This is almost double the number of cases reported the week before. Of the 1417 cases reported, only 15 of them were not students.

Overall, asymptomatic surveillance testing was down from the week before, with only a little over 1500 tests performed. Despite lower testing, the positivity rate was eight percent with 125 positive tests, up from last week when the positivity rate was just over five percent.

The majority of tests reported are from testing done off-campus and reported through Dawg Check, however the University Health Center’s reported positive cases more than doubled from last week.
