WGAU

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a fatal train collision. According to a release from the department, 37-year old Athens resident Charles Lawrence died while he was walking in the same direction of the train in the area of Jefferson Road near the GA 10 Loop.

The conductor saw Lawrence and applied the brakes and sounded the train’s horn. Lawrence reportedly did not respond and was struck and killed. The incident is under investigation.

The ACCPD reminds the public that train tracks are private property, so it is both dangerous and illegal to walk on or around train tracks.

Anyone with information concerning this collision is asked to contact the ACCPD at (706) 613-3345.
