ACC Youtube

At 1:30PM today, Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz delivered a virtual State of the Community address.

In the address, Mayor Girtz gave an overview of the Athens Clark County Government and community accomplishments from 2020, including the Economic Development Department's success and the community's efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19.

"Because of your efforts and the assistance of all in Athens who have maintained diligence in the simple, safe tactics of washing your hands, wearing masks, and avoiding crowded indoor spaces, you have provided Clarke County with a lower mortality rate than any metro center in the state, lower than any of the counties that touch Atlanta, and lower than any of our neighboring counties. You have been a model that has saved lives."

Mayor Girtz also discussed goals for 2021.

"Looking ahead, we begin with the end in mind, and the picture we paint is one in which residents are well housed, healthy, educated, justly compensated, building wealth, and enjoying the natural beauty, rich culture, and comradery of this community that has so deeply enriched my life for these last 25 years. "

According to Mayor Girtz, programs such as the Affordable Housing Fund and the newly created Tax Allocation District Program will help to achieve these goals.

In case you missed the live stream this afternoon, the entire State of the Community address can be viewed on the Athens-Clarke County Government's YouTube channel.
