GBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Jackson County

The GBI is investigating a Jackson County shooting that ended with one person dead and an officer critically injured. According to a release from the GBI, Jackson County deputies responded to a 911 call from a home around 9:20 Friday night, November 5 in Hoschton.

In the domestic situation, the homeowner wanted 43-year old Jessica Worsham, who did not live there, out of the home. When deputies arrived they met Worsham at the front door of the residence. She pulled out a gun and pointed it toward the deputies. Worsham ignored verbal commands to put the gun down and fired at the deputies, injuring one of them. The other deputy returned fire, hitting and killing Worsham. The injured deputy was taken to a local trauma center where she was reported to be in critical condition.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting incident.

Once complete, the casefile will be provided to the Piedmont Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

This is the 84th officer involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2021.
