Local, state and federal law enforcement rounded up 49 people in the Athens area described as repeat violent offenders and gang members during an eight day period in May.
Operation Washout Classic City led to numerous charges including aggravated assault, burglary, rape, stalking, drug and probation violations. The U.S. Marshals task force included numerous federal agencies, the Georgia State Patrol, Athens-Clarke County police, the Oconee and Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Offices plus resources from the Western Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
