Georgia’s artificial intelligence sector is expected to generate tens of thousands of new jobs through President Joe Biden’s $65 million grant.
The grant stems from Biden’s $1 billion initiative to boost high-tech manufacturing and renewable energy tech across the nation. Government officials said that the grant winners were chosen from a roster of 529 applicants from 2021’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.
Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said that the winners’ selection process was not a political decision, despite allotting grants to several swing states.
As of July, Georgia’s gubernatorial and US Senate races showed a nearly 50-50 split across party lines, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs’ poll.
