Early Voting Update for Nov. 4, 2022

As of this morning, the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office reports that Georgians have cast 2.2 million absentee and in-person votes -- roughly half a million more than in 2018. Around 29% of early voters so far are Black, an important constituency for the Democrats, who have found themselves lagging in the polls in recent weeks. Less than 31% of voters are under 50 years old, another important demographic for Democrats.

The heavy early voting turnout this year is a new record for Georgia in terms of midterm votes. However, Athens is still trying to catch up to its 2018 vote total. At 22,497 absentee and in-person votes, GeorgiaVotes.com reports that 21% of those votes are from Black residents. Despite the county having a median age of 28 years old, only 38% of votes come from residents under 50 years old.

Jackson and Oconee County voters have cast 17,975 and 14,367 votes respectively.

Election Day is Nov. 8. All voting locations will be open from 7AM-7PM.
