Health advocates are calling for the Food and Drug Administration to follow through on a plan to ban menthol cigarettes. Delmonte Jefferson is Executive Director of the Center for Black Health and Equity. He says the FDA was supposed to announce the ban this year.
Jefferson says 85% of Black Americans smokers use menthol cigarettes and 45,000 of them die each year from tobacco-related diseases.
His organization and others are reaching out to the faith-based community to get involved for “No Menthol Sunday” on May 21st.
