In April of 2022, the FDA proposed new standards that would ban flavored cigars to lessen their growing appeal among young people, but a final ruling is still in the works.

Alexia Ridley spoke with Dr. Kimberly Sterling, professor of Nicotine and Tobacco Studies at Rutgers University, and Dennis Henigan, vice president of legal and regulatory affairs for Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, on the tobacco industry’s strategy to attract young people of color with these products and the importance of a total ban.

Alexia Ridley joined WUGA as Television and Radio News Anchor and Reporter in 2013. When WUGA TV concluded operations, she became the primary Reporter for WUGA Radio. Alexia came to Athens from Macon where she served as the News Director and show host for WGXA TV. She's a career journalist and Savannah native hailing from the University of Michigan. However, Alexia considers herself an honorary UGA DAWG!
