Athens-Clarke County commissioners are expected to vote tonight on whether to award a nearly $3 million contract for the construction of a pedestrian bridge and stairs for the Classic Center Arena.
The bridge and stairs are a crucial part of the overall arena project, connecting a parking deck to the arena itself. The $2.98 million price tag is about a quarter of a million dollars under the amount budgeted for the structure.
Meanwhile, construction continues on the arena itself, which is slated to be finished next summer. It is expected to begin hosting events next fall.
