Americans have more debt than ever, with the most recent numbers showing the nation’s overall consumer debt exceeding $17.3 trillion. Georgia is in the middle of the pack when it comes to debt. Cassandra Happe is an analyst with the personal finance website WalletHub. She says not all debt is equal, with revolving credit such as credit cards being worse than home or auto loans which provide something of value.
Happe says there are steps consumers can take to manage debt, including paying on time and keeping accounts current.
She says the average household in the state owes more than $133,000 in consumer debt, the national average is $145,000.
