Athens’ December Unemployment Rate shows slight increase since last year

Unemployment in Athens saw a slight increase in December, but shows improvements to job statistics from last year. Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said that Athens recorded an unemployment rate of 2.8 percent in December 2023, which is up by one-tenth of a percent since November. The December state unemployment rate sat at 3.4 percent.

The labor force decreased in Athens by 681 in December. However, that number increased by over 2400 compared to December 2022.

Athens also ended December with 103,500 jobs. That number decreased by 100 from November to December and rose by 3,000 when compared to the same time last year.
