Nikola Knezevic

The Clarke County School Board gave tentative approval to the upcoming fiscal years district budget in a meeting Thursday evening.

The $240 million plan, roughly $26.5 million increase from the current year, leaves Clarke County’s millage rate at 18.8 mils, where it has remained unchanged for the third consecutive year.

The proposed budget covers funding for new states mandates and district initiatives, including state-required salary increases for faculty and staff, $45,000 in additional funding for school security improvements, increases in the amount of employee state health insurance costs covered by the district as well as an increase in the amount the district contributes to each eligible employee’s teacher retirement system benefits.

Several new positions to staff the new CCSD Learning Center are also included in the budget, as well as more security positions, paraprofessionals, mental health counselors and an additional district translator and information technology analyst.
