Accused school shooter Colt Gray and his father Colin Gray will remain in custody. The pair attended back-to-back court appearances in Barrow County Superior Court Friday morning. Lawyers for the pair did not request bail.14-year-old Colt Gray is charged with four counts of felony murder in connection with Wednesday morning’s shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder. He is being tried as an adult. Authorities say additional charges are expected.
Colin Gray is charged in connection with the shooting for letting his son possess a weapon. He has been charged with second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and cruelty to children. Barrow County Superior Court Judge Currie Mingledorff said he could face a maximum of 180 years in prison if convicted.
The cases will be presented to a grand jury, which has its next scheduled meeting Oct. 17, Smith said. Grand jury proceedings are not open to the public or news media. If the grand jury issues indictments for Colt and Colin Gray, they will then be scheduled for arraignment. Colt Gray faces another hearing on Dec. 4.
Four people were killed in the shooting. The victims are students Mason Shermerhorn, and Christian Angulo, both 14 years old. Also, Richard Aspinwall who taught math at the school and was a defensive coordinator for the Apalachee Wildcats football team and Christina Irimie who also taught math. Nine others were injured in the shooting.
