Sec. of State Raffensperger says Election Running Smoothly, Despite Hoax Bomb Threats

There’s solid voter turnout in Georgia on this Election Day. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the process is running smoothly and most precincts in the state experienced short wait times. He expects Georgians to know election results by the end of the night.

“Well we will have, with SB 189, all of this early voting, so that’s over four million ballots that were cast early, and the absentees that were accepted, all of that has to be uploaded and reported no later than one hour after the polls close,” according to Raffensperger. “by 8 pm you’ll have probably 99% of all that. So that’ll be up, you’ll get a good idea of what the race looks like. Then all of the voting that you’re seeing today, before the end of the night you’ll have all of that.”

He also discussed Russian-based bomb threats which were made around the nation including here in Georgia. He said those threats were not credible.

“When you don’t have much going for you, then if you can try and destabilize America, then that’s probably the best you can do,” Raffensperger said. “They’re up to mischief it seems, they don’t want us to have a smooth, fair, and accurate election, and they think they can get us to fight among ourselves, they count that as a victory. So, that tells you a little bit about the Russians. They are not our friends. Anyone who thinks they are hasn’t been reading the newspapers.”

Raffensperger estimates more than a million Georgians vote on Tuesday.
