Last chances for Eastside library input this week

Athens Regional Library System / Facebook

Athens-Clarke County residents will have until Sunday to give their thoughts on the new East Side library. The county’s government also asks residents to suggest a song that represents Athens to incorporate into the library’s design.

Athens-Clarke County will host two drop-in meetings Wednesday to collect input from county residents on proposed designs for the new library. One meeting will be held from 11 am to 1 pm and the other from 5 pm to 7 pm. Both meetings will be held at Fire Station #7 at 2350 S. Barnett Shoals Road. The proposed designs can be found at accgov.com/eastsidelibrary, along with an online survey where residents can provide their input.

The survey also asks for suggestions for a song that best represents Athens. The design team may symbolically incorporate the chosen song into the library’s exterior.

In September, the Athens-Clarke County mayor and commission selected 1030 Barnett Shoals Road as the new library site. The library is funded by over $14 million of Special Option Local Sales Tax funds.
