The University of Georgia welcomed its newest alumni Friday. More than 3,200 students met the requirements for fall commencement.
Sebastian Haynes is one of those three thousand plus students filing into Stegman Coliseum. He’s graduating with a degree in real estate. He’s also setting a precedent in his immediate family by becoming the person family to attend college.
“It’s super exciting, so I’m a first-generation student so neither of my parents have graduated, went to school,” Haynes said. “My dad you know, not necessarily blue collar, but works for UPS. My mom owns a salon, so this is a huge first step for my family, which is super exciting. I’m just ready to be successful and pave the way for my own kids.”
He says in addition to the city of Athens, he has fond memories he is leaving behind and they will always have a place in his heart.
“Oh man. I’ll miss being surrounded by a lot of young, brilliant, successful individuals. It’s not all the time that you get to be in a world with incredible, successful people and I made awesome friends here that have now turned into family, so I’ll miss my dogs for sure.”
Judge Lisa Godbey Wood delivered the undergrad address and UGA Professor John Maltese was scheduled to speak at the graduate ceremony.
