An Athens nonprofit is hosting one of its largest annual fundraisers, Rock the Ark this weekend. The benefit concert supports the work of the Ark United Ministry Outreach Center. Programs at the organization include rent and utility assistance, financial education, and asset building. Ashley Stewart is the Program Coordinator at the facility.

“So, this fundraiser is one of our biggest, it’s how we are able to assist people throughout the year,” according to Stewart. “Last year we did $198,000 worth of assistance to our neighbors and hopefully we can do even more this year, especially with this fundraiser.”

Stewart says the Ark primarily assists low-income, working families.
She describes what benefit concert attendees can expect.

“Our headlining act is Lighthearted. They’re such an amazing acoustic-sounding indie band. They’re twin sisters, so super cool. And then we have KHALIKO, and Karma Kat opening for them.”

The Rock the Ark concert is on Saturday, January 25th at the Foundry. Doors open at 6:30 and the music starts at 7 pm. Visit AthensArk.org for more information.
