Tax season is here, and for many Georgians, that means stress. But for some, it also means free help—thanks to the University of Georgia’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

Now in its 20th year, the program has helped Georgia residents file more than 16,000 state and federal returns, saving taxpayers more than $4 million in preparation fees.

Led by Lance Palmer, a financial planning professor in UGA’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences, the program trains UGA students to assist with in-person and virtual tax filings.

WUGA’s Greg Trevor spoke with Palmer for the latest installment of our “A Few Minutes With…” series, which highlights university programs and their impact on Georgia communities.

The program will continue accepting clients through April 11. For more information or to schedule an appointment, visit fcs.uga.edu/fhce/vita.
