Georgia taxpayers will soon start receiving tax refunds. Governor Brian Kemp signed legislation providing more than $1 billion in tax relief for the state’s taxpayers. House Bill 112 will provide refunds of up to $500.
“This is the third special, one-time refund like this that we have enacted,” according to Kemp. “Our reason for taking this step is very simple. We know this is your money, not the government’s, and we know you know best how to spend it.”
The refunds will begin going out in late May and early June. To be eligible, recipients must have been full-time Georgia residents in 2023 and 2024 and have filed income tax returns for both years.
The Governor also signed House Bill 111, which cuts Georgia’s income tax and corporate tax rate from 5.39 percent to 5.19 this year.
“This bill yet again, accelerates the largest state income tax cut in Georgia history. Today we’re doubling down on that progress, cutting another 20 basis points.”
While Kemp signed the measures on Tax Day, Georgia residents have until May 1st to file income tax returns this year due to an extension by both the federal government and the state, resulting from the impact of Hurricane Helene.
