African Perspectives for September 19, 2021
This episode is our third listeners’ appreciation show for the year. Once every quarter, we set aside a show to appreciate the support of our listeners.
These quarterly episodes have been part of our tradition on African Perspectives for a long time. As part of this show, we share latest information on the increasing numbers of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations in our listening area, on the African continent, and around the World.
The episode introduces and provides a brief description of the new Afrobeats music which describes popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is also known as Afro-pop or Afrofushion and featuring only Afrobeats music selections.
The episode rounds up with updated information on the situation in Guinea where the nation’s elite military unit, the Red Barrett are now in government due to a successful military coup on September 5, 2021.
As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including selections of Afrobeats tunes from Phyno, Tiwa Savage and the collection, Afrobeats Hot Hits.
