The latest in a series of event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation gets underway Monday  evening.

The historic Morton Theatre in downtown Athens is the setting for the 48th Annual Preservation Awards. The event recognizes local preservation efforts from the previous year. Committee Chair Jennifer Lewis says the event celebrates those doing real work when it comes to saving, rehabilitating and renewing historic buildings.

"This is the best make-over show you will ever see," Lewis said. "It is wonderful."

Bees, butterflies, beetles and, flies have a very important thing in common—they all pollinate food we like to eat. In this segment, host April Sorrow talks about Pollinator Conservation with Dr. Kris Braman, head of the department of entomology at the University of Georgia.

More Free Screenings of Athens Documentary

The documentary described as a love letter to Athens is back on the big screen. Cine is hosting additional free screenings of "Athens in Our Lifetimes." The nine additional show times are this Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm; Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 22, 23 and 24 at 7:45 pm.
Producers and Kathy Prescott and Grady Thrasher say there is no charge for the screenings which benefit the theater.

Winterville Marigold Festival

The city of Winterville is holding its annual Marigold Festival Saturday.
The Marigold festival began in 1971 and ran until 2002, before former mayor and current board member Emily Eisenman brought in back in 2009.
She says there are plenty of events beginning with a country breakfast at 6:30.

"You can come out real early as early as 6:30 in the morning," Esienman said. "It goes on until evening, probably 9 or 10 o' clock when the music ends. The bulk of the vendors, though will be open 9 to 5."

Embark Georgia Leadership Conference

Day one has wrapped up for the inaugural Embark Georgia Leadership Conference. The University of Georgia's Fanning Institute hosted the event on college access and resources for students facing homelessness or foster care.

Each student has a unique situation and UGA football player and finance major Steven Van Tiflin is no different, he unexpectedly found himself at risk of homelessness.
