Father’s Day is this weekend and with over 93 percent of dads with young children working, the personal finance website WalletHub released its report of 2019’s Best and Worst States for Working dads. Analyst Jill Gonzalez says Georgia came in at number 42 on the list.
“Unfortunately Georgia is leading off the bottom ten here, in terms of the states and how they fare for working dads, so it has a lot of improvement to be made.”
The report showed Georgia could improve in multiple areas.
“Bumping up that employment rate for dads with young kids,” Gonzalez said. “We’re looking for a lower share of working men living without economic security and in terms of the median family income with the father present; that is on the lower side here too adjusted for the cost of living.”
Gonzalez says several factors were considered to determine the list.
“We looked at things like economic and social wellbeing as far as income and unemployment rates, at work-life balance like parental leave policy scores, that’s where Georgia did the worst out of all these categories. Also looked for child care in terms of cost and access and finally health including male life expectancy in the state.”
Louisiana came in dead last, just ahead of New Mexico while Massachusetts was number one, followed by Connecticut. Analysts studied all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
