51st Annual Athens Preservation Awards Will Be Held Virtually

Morton Theatre

In a statement released on June 1st, Historic Athens announced that their annual Preservation Awards will be held online. Beginning on June 15th, the awards will be broadcast for a number of weeks throughout June and July.

Traditionally the awards are held in a single night, and recognize, “outstanding preservation projects and preservation stewardship in Athens, Georgia.” This year the usual location of Morton Theatre in Downtown Athens will be replaced by a broadcast location of the patio of the Manhattan Café. Beginning on June 22nd, the awards will take an interview based format, with past Preservation Awards winner David Matheny, “a series of live interviews of the 2020 award winners on Historic Athens' Facebook account.” In addition, “Spotlight videos exhibiting project and interview content from a selection of award winners will be produced and published on Historic Athens' Facebook account in subsequent weeks.”

More information on the awards, and their broadcast can be found on the Historic Athens Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/historicathens
