The Athens-Clarke 6th Annual MLK Day Parade and Music Fest will continue as planned. The parade is scheduled to begin at 3 pm at the corner of Hull and Washington Streets. According to the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement, the event began as a way to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and to promote unity and justice.
Immediately after the parade at 4 pm, organizers will hold an honoree ceremony, recognizing the contributions of local Black leaders. This year’s honorees include Linda Davis, Freda Giles, Charles Knapper, Marion Stroud and Hattie Whitehead.
A Youth Zone kicks off and live performances begin on the outdoor stage at 4:30 pm.
In addition to music, food and family activities will be available.
