ACC Commissioners Get a Look at a Set of Potential T-SPLOST at Monthly Work Session

athensonline.com

Athens-Clarke County Commissioners will get a look at a set of potential T-SPLOST 2023 projects at their monthly work session tonight.

90 project ideas were submitted by staff and the public, and those projects together would cost somewhere around $700 million. Commissioners will eventually need to make some tough choices, because TSPLOST 2023 is only projected to raise about $144 million, about 20% of the total cost of all the projects submitted.

Of those 90 project ideas, nearly half were bicycle and pedestrian-related projects, with another 37 projects related to roads, bridges, and stormwater. The Mayor and Commission can also designate their own projects for the TSPLOST revenue.

At tonight’s session, lawmakers are expected to discuss the potential projects as well as possible Commission-designated projects. At their voting meeting next month, Commissioners will likely approve any designated projects and set a budget for the TSPLOST Advisory Committee.

That committee will winnow the list of 90 ideas down to a more manageable number later in the year.
